Wedgwood collectors will be quick to recognize the bright famille rose style sprigs Wedgwood called "Chinese Flowers." They appear in enamels applied to basalt and terra cotta bodies from the first quarter of the nineteenth century to their revival under the name "Capri Ware" around the turn of the twentieth century. This milk jug, however, presents the design in quite a different context--transfer printed and colored on an earthenware vessel. Wedgwood enhances this variation on a favorite pattern by providing a fine honeycomb ground pattern in a cheerful ochre tone.
The medium size of the Dutch shape jug makes it a useful as well as decorative table accessory.
