This footed flower pot shape must have been a favorite Wedgwood design. In addition to this buff yellow jasper dip version with black sprigging, we have owned these grid vases in black basalt, dark blue, green and crimson jasper dip.
The flared vessel is decorated with two sacrificial scenes separated by trees at each side. A fruiting vine border decorates the foot below these relief groups, while above a dense border of flowers and grapes separates the tableaus from the lip of the piece. Thin horizontal bands of uncolored stoneware separate the decorative elements, providing a restrained framework appropriate to the neoclassical design.
Just inside the lip, a slight ledge provides a fitting for the pierced grid to facilitate the display of prized blossoms.
