In the center of this desert dish, a whimsically exotic bird (a pheasant perhaps) poses in a garden setting contemplating an impressive flying insect. Four co-ordinating floral arrangements are centered around the edge of the dish, framing the tableau. The unusual aspect here is transfer printing in not one, not two, but three colors: blue, green and pink. At the very edge, a fine green transfer filet design follows the profile of the rim highlighting the elegant contours and the soft molded shell fittings at each end of the piece.
Finally, we have to point out the unusual whiteness of this earthenware body. Joseph Clementson must have been very proud of achieving a white body in earthenware to rival the elegant bone china which was prized by tableware consumers.
