There is a boldness, one might even say exuberance, in every element of Wedgwood's tall jasperware coffee pot--from its ample proportions to its rich deep blue color. The profile is especially strong--straight sides terminate at fully developed rings at top and bottom, each set off by a deep curved recess. Both the handle and spout possess a bit of drama in their flaring shapes.
The figures of the muses that constitute the main ornamentation are large in proportion to the pot, and the relief has good depth and crisp details. The scale of the sprigged relief shows off the details of the foliage and blossom "grass" border that stretches down the side and of the "trophy" group of classical objects that hang from the base of the spout.
In short, the coffee pot--not at all a common form in jasper--fairly jumps up at you, either on a table top or on a collector's shelf.
