Breezy,light and simple. One can almost hear the music of the little lovebirds which perch around the body of this pretty scalloped ovoid-shape creamer.

The "Cornelian" pattern, however, is a bit more complex than it appears at first glance.  In this two color transfer, a pair of carefully placed lovebirds (executed in black) perches on each side near the handle and beneath the spout.  A contrasting red (or pink) braid patterned band outlines the shoulder and rim.  This band provides ground for the carefully placed series of both blossoms and little bouquets (again executed in black) which trim out the pattern. The overlay of one pattern element over another is uncommon, but in this instance highly effective.

Curious for a potter to take the bother of bi-color printing, but fail to take credit by utilizing a maker's mark. We have only recently encountered examples marked with the pattern name. Our attribution is based on the shapes "Cornelian" shares with J. & W. Ridgway's popular "Tuscan Rose" pattern--a fairly good piece of evidence, but not a sure bet. We would be grateful to anyone who can provide any additional clues.
