The study of nature predominates in this medium size platter in the "Indus" pattern. On the left a formidable looking parrot perches on a flowering branch. Clearly the reason for the vigilant stance is nest of eggs partially camouflaged in the marshy undergrowth below. Extending this wetlands scene, a wild duck takes off from the pond surface and heads for the open sky to the right. The only man-made element, a distant Asian temple, serves to indicate the geographical setting (and, of course, to associate the pattern with design trends current at the time.)
The airy border further re-enforces the exotic locale with humming birds in flight amidst scattered foliage--including bamboo leaves and broad palm fronds that could never be mistaken as European.
