An unusual raisin-brown transfer with co-ordinating enamel rim detail creates cool contrast with the white body of this child's toy dinner plate.  The center features two females in neoclassical Grecian dress reclining in a garden setting.  A sense of ennui is conveyed by the poses and the book tossed aside on one lap.  An exotic, delicately executed tree stands in the foreground in contrast to a cloudy background and, on the far right, a distant chinoiserie complex.  

What finesse and sophistication--in a word, style--some unknown designer has shown in these neoclassical toys.  The sense of ennui in the reclining figures and the cloudy background shows how easily the neoclassical merges into the moodily romantic.
