This medium blue chinoiserie transfer pearlware dinner plate features the "Spotted Deer" pattern -- so named for the two creatures in the lower right foreground. As one looks at the view one is reminded of an English country house and park -- simply dressed out in oriental style -- with its central cluster of buildings, lush vegetation, meandering stream , and of course the ornamental deer. A variety of oriental ground patterns are used to denote the walls and roofs of the fantastic buildings.
The center scene totally fills the well of the plate limiting the border to the shallow flange. The border is a rich arrangement of four oriental inspired devices which are repeated in sequence four times.
