Worcester’s classic "Blue Scale" pattern is a combination of their blue scale ground itself and scalloped shape reserves framed in rococco gilt scrollwork. In this medium size waste bowl, Worcester varies the traditional formula with their hotter"Rich Kakiemon" color palette. Florals decorating the reserves range from bright scarlet to orange with cooler contrasting greens for the foliage, all laced with touches of slate blue.

We have been told that the bundle appearing in one of the reserves gives this pattern its "Sheaf of Wheat" nickname.

John Sandon in The Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain, 1751-1851 notes that while the Blue Scale pattern originated around 1765 to 1770, the bright colors used here point to the 1780-85 time period.
