These companion chinoiserie fantasy views feature a female musician and male magician (and his parrot) in exotic eastern dress and scenery. Little daubs of red, green, blue and yellow enamel add touches of color to the teal green transfer. The rose spray molded border is left without enamel enhancements.

We can only speculate as to the original owners of these chinoiserie trifles, child or adult. Their quick execution tells us that these plates were produced as economically as possible. Doubtless they were made to be sold as toys or souvenirs for some market, fair or scenic spot--or sold door to door from a peddler carrying his wares in a wicker hamper on his back. Whatever their story, their previous owners must have treasured these fanciful pieces; it is unusual to find a pair such as this intact.
