Clews' distinctive floral and bird border is the perfect complement for the romantic view of this black transfer cup plate. A sense of distance and perspective is created by the little river which winds from the wooded hills of the background, over rapids, and into the foreground of the scene. The primary feature is a two-story building off to the right, perhaps an observatory. Off to the left we note a large tree on the bank and additional woods in the background.

Clearly there is uncertainty over the source and location of the view. It appears in some references as "Fairmount--So Called," in others it is simply listed as unidentified. It must have been notable enough at the time to warrant inclusion in this series.
