Some unknown maker has given us a particularly rich, deep chocolate brown transfer for this salad size plate.  While the scene is familiar, we have neither a title or maker.  In the tableau, a family group peers out from a rich garden landscape. Their dress is somewhat curious. The child is in schoolboy clothes; the woman in standard garb; the man, however, wears some costume akin to Christopher Columbus.  (We've no idea what that's about.)  A large garden urn in the foreground reminds us of Mayer's "Canova," while a cluster of buildings in the background  indicates a Middle Eastern locale.  A river winds off to the right,  creating a sense of perspective with additional distant architecture, people and even a sailboat.  The border around the flange is a combination of scenic reserves and floral groups on the deep chocolate ground.   

While we know neither a maker nor pattern name, the similarities to Mayer's "Canova" are unmistakable.  The foreground urn in the midst of a lush waterside garden repeats the "Canova" formula.  Even the fine border of fretwork at the edge of the well has a counterpart in the "Canova" pattern.  Finally the primary border of alternating floral groups and scenic reserves and even the slight scallop of the plate all owe some debt to "Canova."  Obviously, with so many similarities, this pattern will always display well with "Canova" pieces.
