The fairly raucous, but very popular, "Queen Charlotte" pattern derives from Japanese Imari wares (or, as John Sandon points out, possibly from Chinese or continental copies of the Japanese originals.)
Swirling panels of white on cobalt designs alternate with red enameled white-ground panels. The designs consist of simple petal forms and scalloping curves. The white reserve left at the center is punctuated by an equally simple flower form. Gilding accents the radial panels.
The curving profile of the cup's profile straightens out as it approaches the foot. The cup is adorned with a snappy ring handle.
