White reserves in bands of cobalt are transformed into oak leaves by the gilder's touch--alternating with framed floral clusters on a gilt dotted field. A simple gilded band of laurel finishes the border on both cup and saucer.

Viewing this piece under a light, the gilt on dark blue and pure white creates a glow which cannot help but make one imagine the magic these patterns added to the dimly lit atmosphere of early nineteenth century interiors.
