The Masons "Indian Grasshopper" pattern is featured here on an elaborately scalloped and pleated dinner plate. In the center scene, a cluster of oriental blooms -- including a particularly prominent peony -- becomes a whimsical platform for one intrepid (and also prominent) "grasshopper." The scene is framed by a delicate fillet pattern at the very edge of the well. The flange is decorated with three loosely arranged sprays of blooms -- again prominently featuring the then-exotic peony. A second lace-like border of stylized Chinese cloud pattern trims the extreme edge of the plate.
The pattern is executed in light blue transfer with enamel highlights in pale pastel blue, pinks, greens, pale shots of yellow -- and for contrast -- brilliant orange.
