What appears to be a straight forward rustic scene, actually represents an interesting combination of two romantic themes that dominate the subjects of early English transferware. Farmwives, their children, their humble dwellings and their livestock are all the stuff of the rustic pastoral scenes that adorned much English tableware. The reindeer and the yurt-like hut, however, places this pattern among those that appealed to consumers' imaginations by depicting faraway places.
