Among Pratt type offerings, mugs are less available than pitchers.

The molded decoration of this earthenware mug is highlighted in green, brown and ochre enamels beneath the pearlware glaze. 

The"Miser" subject leers at us from an arch reserve on each side of this piece.  The rim is fiished with a naive variation of the elegant "grass" border.  While this mug retains that fresh sense of naivete we look for in Pratt wares, the elegant double scroll handle betrays a high level of expertise on the part of the unknown potter.
