White salt-glazed miniatures exhibit a charm all their own. Note the very clean design of the saucer and the slight flare at the rim of the cup, perfect reflections of  the white salt-glazed stoneware one would have seen on the adult tea table. Originally, this miniature tea bowl and saucer would have been part of a child's toy tea set. 

Janine Skerry and Suzanne Findlen Hood discuss and illustrate miniature stoneware tea and tablewares noting that they were popular toys among privileged little girls.  They reference two advertisements c. 1766 which mention white children's wares. One boasts "enamel, tortoise, and white sets of childrens toys complete." (Virginia Gazette, July 25, 1766)  The second announces "a few small casks of chidrens white stone tea setts compleat." (Pennsylvania Gazette, November 13, 1766)  (Salt-Glazed Stoneware In Early America, p. 157, Figure 27).
