The clean, cylindrical design of Wedgwood's "Brewster" shape teawares, combined with the black basalt body, gives this cream and sugar a very usable, contemporary sense (underscored by the practicality of the glazed interior of the creamer). By executing the body in black basalt, the processional friezes which decorate each piece seem to look ahead to the understatement of twentieth century design.
Sprays of acanthus radiating out from the button knop on the lid of the sugar finish the composition.
