Pinder Bourne and Co. uses a strong black transfer as the basis for this version of their "Garfield" pattern. The primary decoration is a pinwheel pattern of orange enameled sunflowers arranged asymmetrically around a central floral crest or "mon". Toward the bottom of this aesthetic arrangement, caramel luster gives a silky sheen to a roll of fabric printed in bands of Japanesque pattern. This unfurling banner just barely reveals a black and white Chinese fret pattern to the reverse.

Pinder, Bourne & Co. was taken over by Doulton in 1878, however the Pinder Bourne name was retained until 1882. Doulton also retained many of the earlier firm's patterns, including "Garfield."
