Masons achieves a sense of importance with their combination of scale and dramatic color combinations in this footed centerpiece. The gently ribbed, scalloped form is enhanced with their cobalt and gilt filigree border which trims both the rim and foot. A sprinkling of contrasting florals and floral reserves in peach with shots of green and amethyst further enriches the cobalt and gilt ground. Orange scalloped edging finishes the border softening the contrast with the white body of the main bowl. This space is decorated with studies of Masons colorful Chinese fence pattern and oriental garden scenery. The bowl and molded foot meet with an elaborate molded and gilded fitting. The cobalt border and orange frieze detail is repeated inside, just below the ochre lustre rim setting off a variation on the Chinese Fence study in the bottom.

One notes a lack of color in the "Chinese Fence" study on the interior of this piece. While the piece shows the sort of interior ware typical for a punch bowl, Charles Mason was also known to cut corners by leaving some pieces only partially enameled. This bowl seems to exhibit both phenomena.
