Speculation on the potter of this creamer is fruitless at this point. The shape is such a common-sense, utilitarian design that any number of candidates could have produced it. If one turns to the engine-turned checkerboard pattern, one finds examples by several potters. The die-work roulette borders may be the main clue as fewer potters used this type of decoration. Finally, the execution of the checkerboard border with its series of fits and stops possibly reveals an unsure hand as one would find in a smaller operation.
