Large orange and white blossoms--front and back--on cobalt and gilt pads establish this as the popular Masons "Lotus" pattern. Secondary blossoms form a frieze around the jug's neck, just beneath the floral and diamond border.The cobalt serpent handle is given character with gilded reptilian details.

While not quite a toy or miniature, the diminutive size of this jug seems to indicate a decorative, rather than utilitarian status. The size, after all, is perfect for a small nosegay.
