A romantic scene centers on an equestrian statue and recedes to a dreamy waterside city in the background. More distinctive to this pattern are the the ruins flanking the statue and its classical relief base. From overgrowing blossoms emerge Ionic columns and some rather fantastic fragments of cornices and scrolls. Small border scenes are framed in floral garlands and punctuated by larger nosegays.

Ruins are one motif common to both neo-classical and romantic design. Here the effect is distinctly romantic.

We are uncertain whether H. Cutler is a potter or a retailer. A search through standard references proved fruitless. One might observe, however that "Castle Hill Works" sounds more like a pottery.
