A skeletal tree trunk with spare foliage in cobalt is richly enhanced with green and orange overglaze enamels and gilding to create a vibrant Imari-style center design. Gold striping sets off the co-ordinating border design.

Green overglaze enamel is an important element in making this pattern so vibrant. The lavish use of green overglaze enamels tends to disappear from later Coalport patterns possibly because greens generally tend to be less stable than other enamel colors.
