The Crusoe format consists of an alphabet printed around the rim framing the center scene. Here the hero--afloat--spots the island through his telescope. Enamel overglaze colors enhance the rich brown transfer in blue and yellow.

The "Crusoe" series illustrations are of such a consistently high standard that we suspect they come from a contemporary edition of DeFoe's work.
