The footed, flared cup form of this small vase is unusual in Wedgwood's production. Sprigwork trellis devices separate two scenes. Subjects are "A Sacrifice" and "Coriolanus" with his wife and mother who beg him to return to Rome.

The "Sacrifice" sprig is unidentified as to original dates and modeller, however seems to have been a favorite commemorative sprig. "Coriolanus" is attributed to John Flaxman, 1784.
