In a fresh color combination surprising to observers of Spode wares, the dicky bird and blossoms are depicted in rich ruby, deep peach, rose and fuchia with branch and foliage in cobalt and gilt with two greens--all on a "Marble" ground of reddish tan.

Spode gained variety by a mix and match approach to transfer design. "Marble" is usually shown with scattered blooms in imatation of Chinese "Cracked Ice". The dickie bird is featured on a variety of figured grounds.
