Scenes from classical mythology dominate Spode's "Greek" transfer pattern. Various figural vignettes are accomodated in the center scene, tablet-like reserves in the border, and alternating with these, depictions of clasical urns. A unique ground pattern utilizing vine leaves underlies the entire composition, suggesting the wine-loving Mediterranean region.

The linear graphic style of the mythological scenes reveals the influence of the engravings of Sir William Hamilton's collection of painted vases, which created a sensation at the volume's 1804 publication.

Drakard and Holdway in Spode Printed Ware (1983) advise that while the four urns and ground of the border remain constant, the center scene and border cartouches vary throughout the pattern.

While we know of at least one other potter who produced this pattern, the weight, shape, and color of this unmarked example are consistent with Spode's version.
