William Brownfield prints his transfer in a particularly rich butterscotch hue for this dessert plate. In this variation of the "Venetian Scenery" pattern, we seem to be eavesdropping on two tourists pausing in a waterside garden. Nearby classical ruins, an available watercraft, and a distant, possibly ecclesiastical, enclave create an unmistakable impression of Italy. The border is a frothy combination of floral clusters alternating with fruit and filligree devices hanging from the scalloped rim.

We have owned this pattern with the identical mark except for a notation on the banner of "Robinson and Wood". Obviously the pattern came into the partnership when Robinson and Wood joined with Brownfield (1837-50) and continued to be produced by William Brownfield upon dissolution of that partnership.
