In these enamel and pink lustre decorated dessert plates, some un-sung painter has achieved an effect as carefree as an early summer morning. The body is a brilliant white porcelain typical of the period enhanced with a gently molded pattern of petals and akanthus. The decoration features a combination of pink lustre ferns arranged in swags alternating with little nosegays of blue, green, yellow and orange blossoms all caught in a network of pink luster curliques --- carefree, bright and breezy.

At one time, all decoration on English ceramics was freehand. With the advent of transfer printing, hand-painting was used for either the very costliest porcelain or as a lower price alternative to the printed wares. Obviously the carefree naivete of these plates identifies them with the latter group.
