Robinson Crusoe seems to be in a somewhat precarious position pushing his makeshift raft toward land while trying to keep it from dumping its cargo into the water.  The view is one of a series of "Robinson Crusoe" views by Bailey and Ball. The view is executed in black transfer with blue, green, yellow and red enamel highlights seemingly daubed on at random.  Bailey and Ball's elaborate blank is decorated with three concentric borders of molded pattern separated by two bands of molded beading highlighted in bright green.

We only know Bailey & Ball (of Longton, Staffordshire) from the 1847 registration of  their elaborate plate shape.  

The center scene is one of around fifteen Crusoe views offered by Bailey and Ball.  It comes from J.J.
